Construction can be considered as one of the main source of environmental pollution in the world and from this reason for the project participants, especially project managers, are required knowledge and awareness regarding the construction impact on the environment. The environmental performance and impact may be particularly important for the owners. An environmental mandate for the project will provide the management framework for the planning and implementation of construction activities in accordance with the environmental commitments of the organisation, the project context, funders, project and users or any other stakeholders. The environmental mandate will influence the key design parameters relating to sustainability, performance and operational technologies. The environmental mandate should also outline the overall environmental management criteria for the project including what are the key success factors for the projects terms of environmental management. Hence, construction management has to be related to sustainable construction, not just for optimization of time, cost, quality and safety. Construction activities are considered as one of the main obstacles in order to achieve a sustainable development, because they are causing environmental pollution, resource waste or safety problems, especially in developing countries, but the application of sustainable construction principles can reduce the environmental impact. A sustainable construction manager organizes and supervises building projects, including sourcing materials, budgeting, scheduling and managing safety procedures and protocols, in ways that minimize the impact of the project on the environment and maximize its energy efficiency. Technology plays a very important role in sustainable development because it is one of the most significant ways of interaction with the environment. In order to proceed toward sustainability, there are required to be developed and used more sustainable technologies which are practical solutions to achieve economic development and human satisfaction in harmony with the environment. These technologies, reference to stages of design, execution and utilisation of a construction, serve to contribute, support or advance sustainable development by reducing risk, enhancing cost effectiveness, improving process efficiency, and creating processes, products or services that are environmentally beneficial.
